Company: California Resource Company
Job title: Data Scientist
Nathaniel Jones is a geologist and data scientist at California Resources Corporation (CRC). He has a Master’s of Science in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin and has 8 years of practical industry experience using data driven analytics, machine learning, geomodelling, petrophysics, and computer programming to find and de-risk field development opportunities. He has experience driving changes to data management, architecture, and cloud adoption within CRC and building company-scale, adaptable data science processes that moves projects beyond proof-of-concept to deployment. He has attended and organized ‘hackathon’ type events, internal industry focused python classes, and has presented on data pipeline architecture and hybrid physics/machine learning approaches to drilling and workover project vetting/ranking to guide project selection, integrate data across subject matter disciplines, and augment industry professional’s workflows throughout CRC. He is a member of softwareunderground.org, an open community of data geoscience professionals and students driving the development of open source software and open, reproducible research for subsurface data science.
